PPWR: the future of packaging starts today

The new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will significantly transform the packaging industry in the coming years. The regulation places greater emphasis on recyclability, reuse, and reducing packaging waste. For brand owners and producers, it is therefore important to prepare in good time for this new reality.

To support our clients in this transition, Athena Graphics recently organised an inspiring event focused on PPWR. Together with experts and professionals from the sector, we explored the impact of the new regulation in greater depth, as well as the opportunities it offers for more sustainable packaging.

Our partner Pantarein provided a clear overview of the key principles of PPWR and explained the implications this legislation will have for packaging design and material choices. Afterwards, Bart Calis, lecturer and researcher in sustainable packaging at Artevelde Hogeschool, shared several practical examples and concrete tips to more efficiently reduce packaging waste and optimise recycling processes. His insights made it clear that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.

Innovation also played a prominent role during the event. Alexander Degroote, CIO at Athena Graphics, demonstrated our “Intelligent Search Tool”. This tool enables fast and accurate searching within packaging files. It analyses PDF files without training and recognises elements automatically. This saves time and significantly increases efficiency.
